November 12, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Usman Ododo, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the November 11 gubernatorial election in Kogi State.
The INEC’s Returning Officer for the election and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsuka, Professor Johnson Ozoemenan Urama, declared Ododo winner.
The breakdown of the results shows that Ododo secured victory in 12 local government areas of Okehi, Ijumu, Okenne, Yagba West, Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ogori Magongo, Mopamoro, Bassa, Kogi Koto Karfe, Kabba/Bunnu and Lokoja.
THEWILL reports that INEC cleared eighteen candidates including Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Usman Ododo, a former accountant-general of the state and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the election.
Ododo polled 446,237 votes to beat his closest rival, Murtala Aajaka of the SDP, who scored 259,052 votes; PDP’s Melaye polled a total of 46,362 votes and the ADC candidate garnered 21,819 votes.
