Edmonton Catholic Schools requires a Cafeteria Worker I at St. Elizabeth Elementary School to assist in the efficient and safe operation of a cafeteria that provides food services for students and staff. The job provides support to food service activities. This position will provide breakfast and/or lunch to approximately 80 students daily and will need to create menus and shopping lists weekly. The position will be 15 hours per week (3hrs per day) Monday to Friday.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Create menus and shopping lists weekly
  • Prepare, cook and plate/bag the food for students
  • Deliver the food to classrooms or designated areas
  • Cleaning duties as required

Qualifications Include:

  • High school diploma plus two years related experience;
  • Knowledge of food preparation principles and practices and inventory control principles;
  • Knowledge of the safe handling of food, tools, equipment and Occupational Health and Safety practices and procedures;
  • Awareness of the school’s programs and operations;
  • Good time management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Ability to work within tight timelines and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate basic kitchen appliances including deep fryers, grills, meat slicers, grinders and steamers
  • Ability to coach, mentor and train volunteers
  • Good interpersonal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate in the English language (oral and written)
  • Ability to develop and maintain communication with students, teachers and clients
