August 18, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich got their Bundesliga campaign off to a stellar start, thrashing Werder Bremen 4-0 at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.
The Bavarian giants wasted no time in asserting their dominance, taking the lead after just 9 minutes through Leroy Sané. England striker, Harry Kane, making his first competitive start for Bayern following his record move this summer, provided the assist with a superb through ball to set up the German international.
Bayern thought they had doubled their advantage five minutes later when Niclas Füllkrug found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Undeterred, Bayern continued to control proceedings and came close to extending their lead before the break, with Kingsley Coman hitting the post.
The one-way traffic continued in the second half and Kane opened his Bundesliga account in the 78th minute, controlling Alphonso Davies’ cross expertly before firing home. Thomas Müller, introduced late on, turned provider to set up Sané’s second of the night to make it 3-0. There was still time for yet more misery for Werder, as teenage talent Mathys Tel capped an incredible debut with a composed finish in added time to round off a dismantling from the champions.
After the disappointment of defeat to Leipzig in the Super Cup, this was a statement of intent from Thomas Tuchel’s side. Clinical in attack and dominant in midfield, this was a performance that will have rivals of the Bundesliga serial champions worried this season all over again.
