After two seasons in the second division of English football, Sheffield United are now back in the Premier League following an impressive 20 victory over West Brom in the Sky Bet Championship league game at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night.
Tonights victory meant the Blades, who were relegated from Englands top light division at the end of the 2020/21 season, picked the second and the last automatic promotion ticket to the Premier League they joined Burnley who are the runaway winners of the Championship as the two automatically promoted teams.
After the first half ended goalless, two secondhalf goals by Sander Berge in the 58th minute and another from Anel Ahmedhodzic in the 76th minute secured the win for Sheffield which took Paul Heckingbottoms team seasons tally to 85 points, seven points ahead of thirdplaced, Luton.
Sheffield United would still retain second position even if they lose all their remaining matches in the league including the game in hand with only two rounds of matches to go to for most clubs in the Championship, including Luton.
However, playoff spots to determine the remaining one team to join already promoted teams are guaranteed for both Luton and fourthplaced Middlesborough.
Fifthplaced Coventry, sixthplaced Sunderland and all the way to 12thplaced Swansea will fight for the remaining two playoff tickets.
