Lekki tollgate: Peaceful protest is a human right, says Rihanna

American pop singer, Rihanna, has reacted to the Saturday, February 13 protest at the Lekki tollgate, saying that peaceful protest is a human right.

Rihanna’s reaction came in the form of a quoted tweet to Amnesty International Nigeria’s tweet about the incident on Saturday.

Amnesty International tweeted: “Amnesty International was informed that several protesters, were arrested and have been detained. Several sources, including video evidence; tell harrowing stories of widespread use of torture and other ill-treatment against detainees.”

Rihanna then tweeted: “Peaceful protest is a human right!! #EndSARS.”

This is not the first time Rihanna is reacting to issues in Nigeria.

Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, is one of several foreign celebrities who lent their support for the first wave of #EndSARS protests across Nigeria in October last year to end police brutality.

That tweet on October 21, 2020 gathered over 221,000 retweets and over 389,000 likes.
