The lawmaker assured that the National Assembly will make mutually beneficial laws so that Nigerians in the Diaspora too will have their interests protected while contributing to national development back home.
He said: “We at the Senate have actually fashioned out our programmes and plans in the next four years of making sure diasporans are Nigerians and they are always home with their minds. Our main objective is to make laws, amend laws to suit the circumstances of the present situation.
Represented by the NiDCOM Secretary, Dr Sule Bassi, the chairman said, Nigerians in Diaspora (inclusive of Zumunta Association USA Inc) are an integral part of development in Nigeria, through remittances received at home, transfer of skills, talent, global exposure and the latest Diaspora Direct Investment (DDI) initiatives.
“The Zumunta Association USA Inc. is a nonprofit cultural community Organisation based in the Diaspora in the United States of America. Its Chapters spreads across twelve (12) states in the USA and its membership comprises individuals of Northern Nigerian origin from the 19 Northern states, FCT and some of the southern states of Nigeria.
The 10th National Assembly has established a laison office to enhance cooperation with Nigerians in the Diaspora, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Non-governmental Organisations and the Civil Societies.
