The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is a publicly-funded organization that promotes international academic exchange and cooperation. The DAAD offers various scholarship programs for international students and researchers, including the DAAD Scholarship for Development-Related Postgraduate Courses.

This scholarship is aimed at professionals from developing countries who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in Germany in a field related to sustainable development. The scholarship covers tuition fees, travel expenses, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and German language courses.

Level of Study

The scholarships include monthly payments of 861 euros for graduates or 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates; payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover; and travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding.

The scholarship duration is 12 to 24 months (depending on the particular institution) for Masters and 42 months for PhD.


To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen of a developing country
  • Have completed an undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Have at least two years of professional experience in a development-related field
  • Meet the language requirements of the chosen course of study
  • Be able to demonstrate a commitment to development-related issues
