The value of the Award is proportional to your demonstrated financial need and sufficient to cover living expenses and tuition costs for your degree of study.

The Award may be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or to degree completion – whichever comes first – provided you achieve satisfactory academic standing in your faculty, continue to demonstrate financial need, and maintain your Canadian study permit (student visa).

Requirements

To be eligible for the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an international student, who is neither a Canadian citizen nor a permanent resident of Canada;
  • Have achieved academic excellence and have maintained a minimum average of 90% in their high school or post-secondary studies;
  • Have demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to community engagement;
  • Have financial need and be unable to pursue their studies without financial assistance;
  • Meet UBC's admission requirements and be accepted to an undergraduate program at the university.
