The IOE-ISH Centenary Doctoral Scholarships are prestigious awards offered jointly by the UCL Institute of Education (IOE) and the International Students House (ISH) in the United Kingdom. The scholarships are aimed at providing financial support to outstanding international students who wish to pursue a PhD programme at the IOE.

The scholarships were established in celebration of the centenary of the IOE and are aimed at promoting international education and research. The programme offers successful candidates the opportunity to engage in research projects in a diverse and multicultural academic environment, with access to world-class resources and facilities.

Level of Study

The Centenary Doctoral Scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation in a single room (shared bathroom) at International Students House and an annual stipend of £7740 paid by monthly instalments.

The scholarship is tenable for up to 4 years, subject to satisfactory progress.


To be eligible for the IOE-ISH Centenary Doctoral Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an international student from a low- or middle-income country
  • Hold an offer for a full-time PhD programme at the UCL Institute of Education
  • Have a strong academic record and research potential
  • Demonstrate financial need
