The Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (RLS) Scholarships for International Students is an initiative of the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, which is a Germany-based foundation that aims to support and promote the principles of democracy, social justice, and human rights. The scholarship program is designed to provide financial support to international students who wish to pursue their academic dreams in Germany.

Level of Study

The scholarship for international students is in the form of a living grant, for the duration of the standard study programme period. Tuition fees for international students are not covered.

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung’s Scholarship Department offers scholars a wide range of support, consisting of political education events and summer schools, workshops conducted both domestically as well as abroad, symposia and educational trips. It also organizes practical training in fields such as rhetoric, conflict management and other key skills, time management and self-management, bolstering academic qualifications, text and writing workshops, and specific seminars on methodology.


To be eligible for the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Scholarships for International Students, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants must be international students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, or other countries as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Applicants must have a good academic record and demonstrate academic excellence.
  • Applicants must have a strong interest in social justice, democracy, and human rights issues.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in German or English.
  • Applicants must have been admitted to a recognized university or institution of higher learning in Germany.
