Admission Requirements for International Students

To be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Commerce program at the University of Calgary, applicants must have completed their secondary education in an accredited school system with grades that meet the requirements outlined below. Applicants must also have demonstrated proficiency in English language by achieving one of the following:

  • An overall score of 6 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam; or
  • A score of 5 on each band (listening, reading, writing and speaking) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFFL); or
  • A score of 600 on the Paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (PTE-FT); or
  • A score of 550 on the computer-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (CBT-FT).

In addition to meeting these minimum scores, students will also need to provide evidence that they have had exposure to academic study in accounting and finance courses through completion of at least two university level courses from an accredited university in either accounting or finance. These courses should include at least one course from each area (i.e., one accounting course and one finance course).

The process for applying for the Accounting & Finance Scholarships for International Students at the University of Calgary is as follows:

Accounting & finance students at the University of Calgary are eligible for numerous scholarships to help fund their education. Below is a list of available scholarships; some have specific requirements, so make sure to read the full description before applying!

  1. The Alberta Scholarship Program is available for students who are residents of Alberta and have lived in the province for at least one year prior to enrollment at the University of Calgary. Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credits per semester) in an undergraduate program at the University of Calgary and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  2. The BDO Scholarship is available for students who are residents of Alberta or Manitoba and have lived in either province for at least one year prior to enrollment at the University of Calgary. Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credits per semester) in an undergraduate program at the University of Calgary and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  3. The Canadian Accounting Foundation (CAF) Scholarship Program is available for students who are residents of Canada and have lived in Canada for at least one year prior to enrollment at the University of Calgary. Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credits per semester) in an undergraduate program at the University of Calgary and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  4. The TD Bank Financial Group Scholarship is available for students who are residents of Canada and have lived in Canada for at least one year prior to enrollment at the University of Calgary. Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credits per semester) in an undergraduate program at the University of Calgary and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  5. The CPA Ontario Scholarship Program is available for students who are residents of Ontario and have lived in Ontario for at least one year prior to enrollment at the University of Calgary. Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credits per semester) in an undergraduate program at the University of Calgary and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher .
  6. The Bobbie and David Wong Memorial Scholarship – $5,000 award given annually to an undergraduate student who has completed one year of study with a GPA greater than 3.2 and has demonstrated financial need. The applicant must also have an interest in pursuing a career related to finance or accounting.
  7. The BMO Financial Group Scholarships – $2,500 awards given annually to two students: one undergraduate and one graduate student who have demonstrated financial need as well as academic excellence (GPA greater than 3.0). Both applicants must have an interest in pursuing a career related to accounting or finance.
  8. The Edith Wexler Scholarship – $5,000 awarded annually to an undergraduate student who has completed at least two years of study with a GPA greater than 3.0 and has demonstrated financial need. The applicant must also have an interest in pursuing a career related to accounting or finance.
  9. The Alberta-Pacific Scholarship Fund awards undergraduate students who are majoring in accounting or finance at the University of Calgary
