Punch reported that the Vice President, Kashim Shetima, had at a public function in Maiduguri stated that the present administration had approved the construction of one thousand houses in Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger and Benue states with all the ancillary facilities of schools, clinics, veterinary clinics and ranches for the Fulani community.

The opposition PDP in the state through its publicity secretary, Bemgba Iortyom described the establishment of  Fulani colonies, as a  ‘deathly serious nature’ and vowed that people of the state would vehemently reject it.

The party explained that Benue never had a peer-to-peer basis for the inclusion of the state among the other selected states which all have large indigenous Fulani populations with substantial land holdings on which such colonies could be sited.
